Shepard Co executed the design, development and engineering for the many facets of this complex exterior design-build. Shepard Co began with site preparation and custom form work to create 150 linear feet of meandering geometric concrete retaining walls and curbs. The build focuses around a multi-tiered deck construction with complex slopes, contours and edges. The deck is surfaced with custom milled swamp cypress and incorporates a spiraling path of traditional Japanese charred and bent cypress decking, which drops two feet in grade to a shower room. Sloping towards the pool is a 300 square-foot live-edge slab wood mosaic, using an assortment of exterior grade species, including 100 year old river "sinker" cypress, walnut and a 20 foot slab of white oak recycled from the demolition at Carissa's Bakery. The project was finished with steel reinforcement and visible edging to retain 3 to 10 feet of earth build, showcasing curved and angular metal work.
